So...
A few months back, as I was speaking to my congregation about the nearly 100,000 Israelis who are displaced from the North, I made a prediction: When Israel turns its attention from Gaza to Lebanon, we're going to see technology we've never seen before.
Today I woke up to the news that hundreds if not thousands of members of Hezbollah's pagers exploded simultaneously. I have so many questions.
Can any pager or mobile device explode?
Did Israel, years ago, sell Hezbollah booby-trapped pagers and have just been biding their time?
Is Hezbollah just really bad at making technology and it's just coincidence that they all malfunctioned at the same time?
While I may not ever find out the answers to these questions, one thing is certain: enemies of Israel must be terrified.
The Israeli War Cabinet convened this week to deliberate on the ongoing conflict and made a significant decision by officially endorsing a new set of objectives to guide their actions. Among these objectives, a key focus was placed on the imperative task of repatriating the displaced Israelis residing in the North back to their homes. This move underscores the government's commitment to addressing the plight of its citizens affected by the conflict.
While much of the media coverage and international attention have understandably gravitated towards the situation in Gaza, it is crucial not to overlook the dire circumstances faced by communities in the North. The continuous barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah, with backing from Iran, has created a humanitarian crisis in the region. The relentless attacks have forced nearly 100,000 individuals from diverse backgrounds, including Jews, Muslims, Christians, Druze, and others, to seek refuge in hotels for an extended period spanning 11 months.
The prolonged displacement of these individuals is a stark reminder of the human cost of the conflict and the urgent need to restore normalcy to their lives. By incorporating the objective of returning the displaced population to their homes, the Israeli War Cabinet has taken a crucial step towards addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by the conflict. It is a call to action to prioritize the well-being and security of all citizens affected by the conflict, irrespective of their religious or cultural backgrounds.
Israel faces enemies on all fronts. After October 7th I worried that our enemies would be emboldened by the apparent success of Hamas' attack. Here is what Israel has done since:
Dismantle much of Hamas' infrastructure and ability to attack
Use a coalition of allies to defend against 300 missiles from Iran
Assassinate key Hezbollah, Iranian, and Hamas leaders in unfriendly territory
Organize a targeted pager attack against Hezbollah
We know that historically, our enemies only respond to force. Bullies only back down to strength. Thank God for the IDF and their defense of our people. Every awe-inspiring act of the IDF is a deterrent to those who would seek to destroy Israel.
